Photodynamic Therapy for Skin Cancers

cover_female_medical-qpr

The therapy of skin cancers has dramatically expanded over the past number of years. Superficial basal cell carcinomas can be treated very successfully with a number of methods and photodynamic therapy is a modern alternative to other therapies.  During this treatment a specific photosensitising cream is applied for three hours to the skin cancer.  Following this a PDT light is shined onto the skin, activating the cream,  which leads to destruction of the skin cancer.  The treatment is  repeated a week later.  For large superficial basal cell carcinomas PDT is a very good treatment option.
